sculpsure-posterAlways on the leading edge of advances in body contouring treatments, Maryland plastic surgeon Dr. Joseph Michaels is now offering SculpSure, a non-invasive fat reduction procedure. SculpSure is FDA-approved to reduce pockets of unwanted body fat from the abdomen and  flanks, but it is also effective at removing stubborn fat deposits in the arms, thighs, knees, ankles, bra line and the male chest. Here, Dr. Michaels shares what you need to know about SculpSure treatment.

What SculpSure Can Accomplish

SculpSure uses laser energy to target and destroy fat cells. The heat from the laser kills the cells and the fat is filtered through the body’s natural metabolic processes. Since the laser doesn’t directly target skin cells, there is no injury to the skin layers. Rather, the heat generated from the device leads to some mild skin contraction and tightening. There is no downtime needed after treatment and you go back to your normal routine once you leave the office. After only a single appointment, the targeted area looks slimmer, smoother and more sculpted. Results typically take six to 12 weeks to appear. Each treatment will result in up to a 24 percent reduction in fat per treatment. For this reason, we strongly suggest two treatments per area to optimize results.

Compared to other non-surgical fat reduction treatments, such as CoolSculpting, SculpSure treatments take half the time and you can treat multiple areas simultaneously. It can also treat smaller fat deposits that can be problematic to treat with the CoolSculpting system. Adverse effects are also extremely rare (virtually unheard of).

In addition to understanding the benefits of SculpSure treatment, it is also important to set reasonable expectations of a non-invasive procedure. SculpSure is not equivalent to surgery. You will certainly see a transformation, but it will not be as dramatic as liposuction or another excisional surgical body contouring procedure. During your consultation, we want to set realistic expectations to ensure you will be happy following your procedure. Since we offer a full spectrum of body contouring procedures, we will arm you with all the information necessary for you to make the best decision for your specific needs.
