What were the top five most popular plastic surgery procedures among men last year? Let’s take a look, counting down from the fifth most popular procedure to the most requested cosmetic procedure among male patients in 2013.
#5: Facelift
According to the data released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), facelift surgery was the fifth most popular cosmetic surgery procedure among men in 2013. More than 12,500 men sought to rejuvenate their facial appearance with facelift surgery last year, marking a 7 percent increase from the previous year.
#4: Gynecomastia Treatment (Male Breast Reduction)
Gynecomastia, or the appearance of enlarged male breasts, can be a particularly embarrassing problem for men. Many men with gynecomastia feel incredibly self-conscious about the way their chests look and even avoid social situations that require them to take their shirts off. This explains why almost 23,000 men underwent breast reduction surgery in the United States in 2013.
#3: Liposuction
Women are not the only ones who suffer from stubborn deposits of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise efforts. Men have pesky “problem areas,” too! This is evident in the fact that more than 23,500 male patients had liposuction in 2013 to remove unwanted fat from under the skin. This figure marks a 3 percent increase in the number of male liposuction patients from the previous year.
#2: Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)
The second most popular cosmetic surgery procedure among men in 2013 was blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery. This is no wonder, considering eyelid surgery is often an effective way to rejuvenate the appearance of the face, without undergoing full facelift surgery. Last year, over 30,000 men had the procedure.
#1: Rhinoplasty
And the No. 1 most popular cosmetic surgery procedures among men in 2013 was … rhinoplasty! More than a one-fourth of all rhinoplasty patients in 2013 were men — over 57,000 men opted to bring a sense of balance to their facial features with nose surgery last year.
Our Plastic Surgery Procedures for Men
Although men are showing increased interest in looking more youthful or fit with plastic surgery, they do not seek the same aesthetic outcomes as women. For instance, men pursuing blepharoplasty do not generally desire the wide-eyed look that typically epitomizes femininity — men want to look more youthful while still appearing masculine. Fortunately, Dr. Joseph Michaels understands the male aesthetic. He customizes each procedure to address the specific aesthetic concerns of the patient.
