The 30s
A person’s 30s are a popular time to address a long-time physical insecurity. Dr. Michaels has seen patients that spent their teens and 20s wishing for a more attractive nose or a better defined chin — and finally have the resources to make those dreams come true.
Other than correcting sources of long-term insecurity, very few people in their 30s require facial plastic surgery. Botox has become more popular in this age group as well. Although very few people have true wrinkles in their 30s, many patients are using small amounts of Botox as prophylaxis, delaying the formation of wrinkles on their face. Proper sun protection and a good skin care routine are crucial during this decade to prevent the need for intensive future treatment.
The 40s
People that didn’t take care of their skin when they were younger — or who smoke or inherited certain genetic factors — may start to see noticeable signs of sun damage and aging in their early to mid-40s. It is usually too soon for facelift or other facial rejuvenation surgeries, but regular treatments with Botox and dermal fillers can help minimize noticeable wrinkles, creases and folds in the facial skin. Non-surgical skin resurfacing procedures, either with lasers or chemical peels or microdermabrasion, are also helpful for removing the top layer of damaged, dull skin and the lines, wrinkles and dark spots with it.
The 50s
For most people, facial aging is typically noticeable in their 50s, and surgical correction becomes a more appealing option. Eyelid surgery treats saggy, drooping eyelids and under eye bags. Facelift restores youthful facial contours and elevates sagging skin. Neck lift (often folded into facelift surgery) eliminates loose skin, fat deposits and muscle banding from the neck. Any of these procedures can be combined for comprehensive results. Botox, fillers and lasers can be used to complement the results of a surgical procedure, if needed.
